Hi, sweet friends. One of the questions I’m asked most frequently is about our sofa and chair and a half in our family room.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: SLIPCOVERS. (Also, it’s not a secret.)
For real, though – slipcovers are key. Prior to kids, we had a different couch and tried to make it work after having our first baby. Umm, nope. The stains were ridiculous and it was so hard to clean.

We’ve had our slipcovered sofa for almost 5 years, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s deeper than most sofas, and it’s SO SO comfy. Perfect for curling up and binge-watching Netflix. It’s currently 30% off!
The slipcovers are KEY when it comes to having kiddos. They’re so easy to clean. I just take them off, throw them in the washer and then hang them to dry.
For spot cleaning, I make sure not to use any products – just hot water on a rag will work.
The chair and a half is just as deep as the sofa, and bigger than a normal armchair. It’s the perfect size for 2 people to cuddle up (or a family of 5, if you’re like us.) It’s also currently 30% off!

I used to work with your cousin, Tanya Zeitler years ago and one day she was talking about your blog and I’ve enjoyed it so much since! Anyway I love your sofa and we are looking for a new one! I have 2 girls (7 and almost 9) plus an energetic pup who is 2 so we definitely need something that can clean well and wear well 🙂 Do you remember what color your fabric is? Hi Jessica – thank you so much for your support and I’m SO sorry for my delayed response! I love that you know Tanya! We have the Deso Dove – I think that’s the only choice right now. We love it! It’s such a pretty neutral. Oh and my 3 year old peed on the couch on Friday (ha), which means I washed the slipcover for like the 5th time and it’s still as good as new. 🙂 I hope this helps!! xo
Oh my goodness, you have such a lovely home! The area rug in your living room is gorgeous. I have a large rug in my living room as well, but with 3 pets it is always dirty… so I feel like it makes the rest of the room look not put together. I have even tried professional rug cleaners. How do you keep your rug looking so clean and nice?
Thanks, Sarah! The rug in our family room is wool, so it’s super durable. It’s been actually easy to keep it clean. I just spot clean with a little soap and warm water!
