Before I had a baby, I remember talking to my mom about being cool. Like, would my cool factor totally disappear once I have a child? (Thankfully I’m still VERY cool…) Ok, there are some cute diaper bags out there. But overall, it’s a category that isn’t normally considered “cool,” amiright? I mean, the patterns, the shapes – would you ever carry some of these bags in your everyday non-mama life?

Probably not. (In the widget below I’ve linked some diaper bags that I like and are actually chic in case you want to go that route.)

And if you haven’t noticed, diaper bags aren’t cheap. They typically run you a pretty penny – so why not invest in a bag you can actually use for more than a couple of years?

Since becoming a mama, I’ve had a couple of handbags that I’ve rotated and that work perfectly as diaper bags. This one  (shown in featured image) has been my go-to for over a year. It’s been through a whole lot, and still looks pretty darn good.

Also, I’ve talked a lot on here about my adoration for this tote. It’s perfect for when you’re going to be gone for awhile and need a whole lot of stuff.

There are a lot of stylish handbags out there, but most can’t double as diaper bags. Here are the things I looked for when choosing these bags

Stylish Diaper Bags: How to Use a Handbag as a Diaper Bag

Durability

These babies have to stand up to a lot of throwing around, so you need something that will LAST.

Easy To Clean

No high maintenance fabrics! Motherhood is MESSY, y’all. Fabrics that are easy to wash and wipe clean are ideal when using a purse as a diaper bag.

Structure

No floppy bags, please! You don’t want the whole thing to fall over while you’re reaching for wipes. A sturdy, structured bag is key.

Roomy Handbags

Cus motherhood = A WHOLE LOT OF STUFF. A large tote is ideal for storing everything and bonus points if it zips closed!

How to Use Purses as a Diaper Bag

And last but not least, here is a little secret weapon that you can use to turn these handbags into functional diaper bags. All diaper bags need a changing pad and compartments, right? Well, just place this little gem into any of the bags below, and you’re good to go, mama.
